To produce and sell exemplary Washington State wines made in the traditional style of famous European regional blends, while rewarding our investors, customers, employees and suppliers.

History of Brian Carter Cellars

Fall 1976
Brian starts school at UC Davis after graduating from Oregon State University.

Summer 1978
Brian visits Washington State, where he tastes wines from Chateau Ste. Michelle, Associated Vintners, Preston Vineyards and Hinzerling recognizing the potential for Washington Wines.

Summer 1980
Brian arrives in Washington state and starts making wine for Paul Thomas Winery in Bellevue.

Fall 1996
Brian's Paul Thomas 1983 Cabenet Sauvignon beats 1983 Chateau Lafite Rothchild at Windows of the World tasting in New York City.

Summer 1988
Brian's 1986 Paul Thomas Reserve Chardonnay wins the Grand Prize at Seattle Enological Society.

Fall 1988
Together with Harry Alhadeff, Brian starts Apex Winery.

Summer 1996
Brian's 1993 Apex Syrah wins Grand Prize at Seattle Enological Festival.

Fall 1997
Brian crushes the first Brian Carter Cellars wine at Apex Cellars ultimately resulting in 1997 Solesce a Bordeaux blend.

Summer 1998
Brian's 1997 Washington Hills Semillon wins Grand Prize at Seattle Enological Society, making him the only three time winner of the award.

Summer 2001
Solesce is released to the public.

Fall 2002
Brian crushes grapes for a line of blended wines including Byzance, Tuttorosso and L'Etalon.

Fall 2004
Brian crushes grapes for his first white wine blend Oriana.

Winter 2004
Brian Carter Cellars incorporated as an independent LLC.

Spring 2005
Brian Carter and Mike Stevens meet for the first time and discuss a potential partnership.

February 2006
Brian Carter Cellars releases a full line of blended wines to  an enthusiastic trade at the Waterfront Restaurant.

May 2006
Brian Carter Cellars opens tasting room in Woodinville.
